A Feature Film by Arantzazu Gomez Bayon, produced by Pietari Mikkonen
Film Premiere at DOCPOINT Helsinki Documentary Film Festival 2025

“Forget About Cinema! escapes categorisation in its creativity and illustrates how difficult it still is to combine motherhood and artistry in 2024. Cinephiles will also be delighted by the film's awareness of how the director's work is woven into the wider history of cinema and the canon of her predecessors.”

Inka Achté, DocPoint Head of Programming

Synopsis

Arantxa is a promising filmmaker whose career path is abruptly interrupted after becoming the mother of two daughters. But a filmmaker never stops working. She may not have a salary, or a contract, but the tool is still alive. The tool is looking, thinking and transforming what she sees around her, what she hears and undergoes.

The experience of motherhood is presented from the director’s creative perspective, exposing episodes of obstetric violence, perinatal health, matrescence and conciliation with a striking visual poetry. We find ourselves in front of images of great beauty that tell a painful reality; seemingly happy situations that aren’t so; liberating landscapes where the characters appear to be trapped; beautiful figures engulfed by water.

Day-to-day life transformed cinematographically, allows the director to reconnect with her past to find the way to the future: her daughters are part of her identity, and cinema is too. The challenge is to achieve a balance between both conditions, that of a mother and that of a filmmaker, without giving up either of the two.
